Program Assistant

Our Program Assistants

Program Assistants or PAs are the dedicated volunteers who help bring our Learn to Skate programs to life! These skaters generously donate their time to support our coaches during sessions like Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, Advanced CanSkate, and STAR Prep. PAs are trained each season by certified Skate Canada coaches. Most are active skaters in our STARSkate program, 10 years of age or older, and have a natural ability to lead, encourage, and assist younger skaters. You’ll see them helping with warm-ups, guiding small groups, demonstrating skills, and offering encouragement throughout each session. Many of our PAs become role models that younger skaters look up to and trust on the ice.

How to Become a Program Assistant

Are you a skater who enjoys helping others and wants to give back to the club? Becoming a PA is a great way to build leadership skills, earn volunteer hours, and stay involved in skating.
To become a PA, you must:
  • Be at least 10 years old
  • Be a current or former skater in STARSkate or higher
  • Be comfortable working with young children
  • Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn
All new and returning Program Assistants must attend the mandatory PA Training Session at the beginning of the season, delivered by our Skate Canada coaches.
You’ll receive guidance on safety, communication, and how to assist effectively during sessions.

If you’re interested in becoming a Program Assistant, please speak to your coach or contact the club for more details.

Important Reminder About Communication

Email is the only way we share club updates, schedule changes, and important announcements.
Messages are sent to the email address on your Uplifter account, so please be sure it’s one you check regularly.
We do not send paper handouts or make phone calls.
As a volunteer-run club, we rely on email and online tools to keep things organized and efficient.
Follow us on social media for updates, reminders, and fun throughout the season.
If you're not receiving emails, please reach out, we’re happy to help get things sorted!
