Yellowknife Skating Club Policies

Learn to Skate Programs (Pre Canskate & Canskate) & Jumpstart – Payment & Refunds

All transactions will be completed in Canadian dollars (CAD).

  • Skate Canada & Admin Fees - A non-refundable $43.65 Skate Canada Fee (per year) and non-refundable administration fee of $35 are included in your registration fee.
  • Refunds will not be processed without written request to the Club. Withdrawals within the first 30 days will receive a full refund on general program fees. There are no refunds for any sessions that run less than 30 days (Generally Fall and Spring).
  • No Withdrawal Refunds will be given after 2 months of programs has passed. If there is a change in groups/sessions by the Club, related fees will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Exceptions may be made in case of injury that requires 6 weeks absence (ie. Broken leg ect.). Doctor’s note must be provided.\
  • All skaters will have a $90 Chocolate Almond fee added to their registration.
  • A volunteer deposit cheque in the amount of $100 for Jumpstart skaters, parents are asked to volunteer 5 hours
  • There will be an additional $40 charge on any NSF or declined payments.

StarSkate – Junior, Intermediate & Senior – Payment & Refunds

All transactions will be completed in Canadian dollars

  • The Skating Season runs until the start of March Break and includes all fall and winter ice. Note that All breaks and schedule changes have been considered when calculating monthly fees.
  • Skate Canada & Admin Fees - A non-refundable $43.65 Skate Canada Fee (per year) and an Administration Fee of $90.  Administration fees include simulations, office fitness and office jump class.
  • There shall be no refunds in the event that skating sessions are cancelled due to mechanical failure or club activities. 
  • No make-up sessions are offered due to absences. Hourly skaters whose regular ice time has been cancelled may make up for their cancelled session by skating a different session in the same week. Contact your coach to arrange your make-up session. 
  • In order to ensure a positive and successful skating experience, please adhere to our Club Guidelines and the Parent Code of Conduct posted on our website. 
  • Refund Policy: account adjustments will be considered for serious medical circumstances substantiated by a medical certificate. A $50.00 administration fee will be withheld. All other requests for refunds (ie – retired skater, club transfer, etc.) will be subject to a cancellation penalty of two months’ ice fees. Requests must be received in writing. Music playing commitments must still be honored, and volunteer commitment charges will be applied in the case of nonparticipation. 
  • The YK Skating Club pays for coaches' expenses (transportation, meals, accommodation, etc.) for selected competitions. This season the club will pay expenses for Calgary Open and Territorials
  • Registration deadline is August 23, 2019.   Package skaters who do not submit their online registration and Hourly Skaters  their Session Request Form prior to the deadline will have a $100 late fee applied to their account.
  • All skaters will have a $90 Chocolate Almond fee added to their registration.  
  • A volunteer deposit cheque in the amount of $200 for Junior, intermediate and Senior Test Stream, parents are asked to volunteer 10 hours, 
  • Music playing policy where if you do not play 1 music session for each day you child skates your account will be charged $50 for each session you do not play music.  Please see the music policy for full details.
  • There will be an additional $40 charge on any NSF or declined payments.

Ice Conduct

Only registered skaters, coaches, program assistants and board members are permitted on the ice surface during sessions.

Parents or other adults are not permitted to enter the ice during programs.  This does not include designated family skate times.

Parents should address questions or issues during active sessions to YKSC Board Members. Coaches should not be interrupted while on ice providing lessons.

All StarSkate skaters agree to read and follow the YKSC Code of Conduct which includes the Ice Rules for these sessions.

All Learn to Skate Skaters (including Jump Start) must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet (Stages 5 and lower) at all times while on the ice.


Helmet Policy

All Pre-Canskate and Canskate skaters must wear a CSA approved Hockey Helmet.  Jumpstart Skaters Stage 5 and lower must also wear a CSA approved Hockey Helmet

The Yellowknife Skating Club is committed to protecting the privacy of any personal information you may provide when visiting the Yellowknife Skating Club web site.
